Food Handler Classes

Students working in the CDL are required to obtain a Food Handler Card. Cards can be obtained by attending sessions sponsored by the City of Columbia or on campus; times, dates and places are listed below.

  • Every food handler must obtain a Food Handler Card within 30 days of his/her start date at the CDL.
  • Re-certification is required when the certificate expires.
  • Your card is to be kept on file with the CDL as it must be available for inspection upon request. THERE ARE NO FOODHANDLER’S CLASSES ON CAMPUS IN THE SUMMER

City of Columbia Food Handler Class Schedule

All classes are held at the Sanford-Kimpton Building, 1005 W. Worley (corner of West Blvd., & Worley Street), in the Community Training Room. Food handler cards cost $15 (fee collected at registration – NO DEBIT/CREDIT CARDS) and are good for three years from date of class. Card is transferable to any food service facility in Columbia. Classes begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m and last for approximately one hour. Late arrivals will not be admitted. Seating capacity is limited to 120, on a first come, first served basis. Class will close when maximum capacity of 120 has enrolled. Duplicates cost $5 and are issued during regular business hours in the Health Administration office If you have done the SMART training, bring in your certificate of completion and ID to class.
