In the spirit of service that was the cornerstone of the 1839 founding of the University of Missouri, the Mizzou Alumni Association Student Board presents the Mizzou ’39 Award to 39 outstanding seniors each year. Recipients are chosen for their academic achievement, leadership and service to Mizzou and the community.

Jarri Brooks, a senior majoring in HDFS and Psychology, was a recipient of a Mizzou ’39 award, which recognized him as a top undergraduate with a strong record of leadership and long list of achievements.

With the mentorship of Dr. Melissa Herzog, Jarri has engaged in multiple research experiences studying romantic relationship education via the McNair Scholars program and the Honors programs in Psychology and HDFS respectively. He also served as an MU Resident Advisor mentoring freshman students and volunteered providing support to MU students and the Columbia community as a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Jarri currently serves as President of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and strengthens internal and external affairs of the National Pan-Hellenic Council as Executive Vice President.

“I’m wholeheartedly thankful to be a recipient of Mizzou ’39,” Jarri said of this honor that highlights the impact he has already made and foreshadows the impact he is likely to make moving forward. “Whether it’s among individuals in my care as a future therapist or within the neighborhoods or cities in which I live, my Mizzou experience has instilled in me a drive to serve others that I will take everywhere,” he added.
