Department of Human Development and Family Studies

The Child Development Lab (CDL)

The CDL provides exemplary care and education for infants and young children. It is not, however, simply a service that MU provides to parents.

Several HDFS courses, and at least one course from Education, utilize the CDL as a teacher-training site. These courses serve students from HDFS, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy, which utilizes the lab for child observations.

Students and faculty from 17 other MU departments
have made use of the facility for teaching and/or
research purposes.

For instance, faculty and students
from Psychiatry, Respiratory Therapy, Textiles and
Apparel Management, the School of Journalism, Architectural Studies, Educational Leadership and
Policy Analysis, Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Medicine, Psychological Sciences, Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum have regularly utilized the CDL facilities and the access to children and parents provided by the CDL for research projects.
